Bandwidth issues bring added costs to cloud deployments

For businesses preparing to make the leap into the cloud, calculating the cost of deployment means assessing a number of foreseen and unforeseen variables, but one that often gets overlooked is the ongoing investment in maintaining adequate bandwidth, said Daniel Cheng, president of reseller AMA. Experts say the lack of oversight can force businesses to choose between adding new costs in the future or risking poor performance. "Customers can get into the cloud pretty inexpensively, but if the bandwidth costs go through the roof as a result of using the cloud, that can eat into their savings pretty quickly," said Nextpoint Information Systems' Greg Emplit.
