Canadian Tire, dealers strike a new pact for changing times

Canadian Tire and its 490 store owners signed a new 11-year contract after two years of negotiations that had the retailers looking for ways to simplify and streamline in the face of growing new competition from Wal-Mart and now Target. "We tried our best to take silly things that make our business complex out of the contract; aligning on how we share costs and structural things, like hierarchy of decision-making," said Dave Deplaedt, president of the Canadian Tire Dealers Association.
