CMS is extending the use of individual health information stored in eight databases, including the National Claims History database and several ones dealing with Medicare recipients, to identify at-risk people during emergency situations. The expanded data-sharing initiative aims to easily reach and offer assistance in times of disaster to medically vulnerable people, such as those who rely on electricity to undergo dialysis or receive oxygen.
