Companies are keeping cash close to home

Companies are keeping cash at U.S. banks, even smaller institutions, despite the expiration of unlimited government insurance on noninterest-bearing deposits at the end of 2012. Companies appear to be confident that domestic banks will not fail. Another factor is that there are few investment options offering a better return.
