Dempsey: U.S. aims to be a stabilizing presence in Asia

Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with the top Chinese military officer on Monday. In a joint news conference, Dempsey said the U.S. seeks to be "a stabilizing influence in the region" and emphasized the need for cooperation. Last week, China released a military white paper that appeared to criticize U.S. efforts to expand the American presence in the region.
