Germany's "Liikanen Light" plan faces criticism

The government of German Chancellor Angela Merkel has proposed requiring banks to separate some investment-banking business from activity for corporate and retail clients. Banks are expressing concern about the plan, dubbed "Liikanen Light" because it is seen as a less drastic version of a recommendation from a group led by Bank of Finland Governor Erkki Liikanen. Meanwhile, the Social Democratic-led opposition argues that the proposal is too weak.
