India begins process of setting prices for essential drugs

India has begun receiving production and sales data from pharmaceutical firms as part of the process of setting prices for 348 drugs on the National List of Essential Medicines. Under the law, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority generally bases new drug prices on the average retail price of a particular type or brand of medicine having a market share of 1% or more.
