MIE can be alternative to open surgery in esophageal cancer

Blood loss was reduced with minimally invasive esophagectomy compared with standard surgery for esophageal cancer, according to findings presented at a gastrointestinal and endoscopic surgeons' meeting. Hospital stays were shorter while mortality or morbidity rates were similar, the study of 146 patients found. "MIE is a safe alternative to open esophagectomy," researchers concluded.
