Netflix boosts subscriber base and bottom line

Netflix signed about 2 million new subscribers in the first quarter of the year, boosting interest with new content including the original series "House of Cards." The company, which reported a net profit of $2.7 million for the period, compared to a $4.6 million net loss in the year-ago quarter, will offer more original content as it competes against a growing field of competitors including Amazon, Hulu and HBO.
