Newtown, Conn., 9-1-1 dispatcher Robert Nute was chosen from among a dozen finalists as national winner of the Smart Telecommunicator Awards for his handling of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The full Newtown 9-1-1 dispatch team was named Dispatch Center of the Year by the Association of Public Safety Officials.
