RD: Look for foods with 300 mg of sodium per serving or less

The sodium content on food labels can be confusing, so registered dietitian Lynne Schatzlein tells patients to ignore the percentages listed on the package and look at the milligrams of sodium, aiming for foods that have less than 300 mg per serving. Dietitians say opting for fresh foods and avoiding processed foods can help cut sodium intake.
