Nevada state Sen. Kelvin Atkinson, a Democrat, told colleagues he is gay Monday evening before the state Senate passed a measure that could lead to the repeal of a state constitutional ban on legal marriage for same-sex couples. "I know this is the first time many of you have heard me say that I am a black, gay male," Atkinson said. The legislation now heads to the Nevada House. It would require passage a second time in the next legislative session before the question could be put to voters on a statewide ballot.
