TVA acknowledges missteps in flooding estimates for Tenn. plants

Tennessee Valley Authority officials admitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that the utility erred in its flooding-protection estimates for its Sequoyah and Watts Bar nuclear plants in Tennessee. Officials also acknowledged flaws in the work culture regarding catastrophes but said the concerns have been addressed. "We recognize we were slow to respond when a resident [NRC] inspector questioned our flood preparedness," said Preston Swafford, TVA's nuclear operations chief.
