Why advertisers should push back against "freemium" apps

A number of mobile applications -- including Spotify, Pandora and Zynga -- offer free, ad-supported services as well as subscription-based services with little or no advertising. That gives app-makers a perverse incentive to make ads intrusive and annoying in order to drive subscription revenues. "There are enough bad ads out there without making them intentionally bad," Michael Learmonth complains.
