Partners to gain hospital visitation rights in North Carolina

North Carolina is amending its Patients' Bill of Rights to allow same-sex partners to be accorded the same visitation rights as those who are "legally related" to a patient. "This is a victory not just for same-sex couples, but for unmarried opposite-sex couples, caregivers, and other loved ones whom the state does not legally recognize," said Ian Palmquist, executive director of Equality North Carolina.
