CMS proposes pay increase for inpatient rehabilitation facilities

The CMS on Friday proposed a 1.5% hike in payment rates for Medicare-participating inpatient rehabilitation facilities in fiscal year 2012 to create a new quality reporting system. The revised payment rates would help encourage better care for beneficiaries, while the new reporting system would help boost patient safety, reduce health care-acquired infections and create a coordinated patient-centered care system, said CMS Administrator Dr. Donald Berwick.
