Diller defends Aereo before Senate panel

Aereo-backer Barry Diller told a U.S. Senate panel studying the future of online video that his Web-based service should not have to pay fees to the broadcast stations that it retransmits via a subscription service. "Aereo is technology that simply allows a consumer to get what was the quid pro quo for a broadcaster receiving a license," said Diller, the chairman of IAC/InterActiveCorp. He also said that online video distributors should be treated equally to traditional providers.
