Xylitol lozenges offer modest protection against dental root caries, researchers analyzing data from a previous study found. The study initially found no statistical significance between the participants taking xylitol lozenges and those taking placebo, but the new approach analyzing specific tooth surfaces rather than all collectively found 40% lower incidence of root caries in the xylitol group compared with placebo.
