Debate lingers on the merits of the common core

Even as some schools are implementing the Common Core State Standards, debate continues on the merits of the guidelines, with opponents saying the standards have not been adequately tested and supporters saying the old system was broken. Education blogger Valerie Strauss writes that the common core previously was "steam-rolling through the states" with strong support and funding, but "where this is going is anybody's guess right now."
