Do you need a digestive enzyme supplement?

Many people take supplemental digestive enzymes to help break down food, even though the substances are produced naturally throughout the GI tract, says dietitian Tamara Duker Freuman. She says people with pancreatic insufficiency or lactose intolerance, or who eat an especially high-fiber diet may want to consider these supplements, but for most people there are no clear benefits.
