FreedomPop modem opens access to Sprint's 3G network

FreedomPop has taken a major step in weaning itself off relying on Clearwire's WiMAX network for its "freemium" wireless broadband service, by selling a hot spot modem that will enable users to hop onto Sprint Nextel's CDMA EV-DO network. The modem will upgrade to WiMAX speeds when close to a Clearwire tower and provide subscribers with nationwide service. FreedomPop intends to hook into Sprint's Long-Term Evolution network before year's end.
