Gunshot wounds are more likely to kill youths than other injuries

Data on 6,930 4- to 17-year-olds who were admitted at two trauma centers in Colorado for firearm injuries showed that 13% of them died from gunshot wounds compared with 1.7% among patients who suffered other injuries. Of the children and teens who were treated for gunshot wounds, researchers found that 50% of them required intensive care. The findings were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
