Every day at 4 a.m. the Mercado de la Nueva Viga, Mexico City’s central wholesale/retail fish market, opens its doors to provide the seafood that feeds central Mexico. This is one of the biggest fish markets in the world and comes alive each day with row after row of small vendors selling everything from silvery blue tuna, to mackerel to squid, prawns, octopus and cuttlefish. The mercado is visited by 25,000 visitors each day who buy about 150,000 tons of fish and seafood each year. Read more.
