N.C.'s back-to-basics curriculum wins support from Senate panel

The North Carolina Senate Education Committee unanimously approved legislation Wednesday that would require next school year an adoption of a back-to-basics curriculum, in which lessons in cursive handwriting and the multiplication tables are mandatory. The state House already has approved the bill, which was expected to be taken up by the full Senate on Thursday.
