Online sales tax bill could have unintended consequences, groups say

The proposed Marketplace Fairness Act, a bill that would allow states to enforce sales taxes on Internet purchases even if the retailer doesn't have a presence in that state, will hurt investors, some groups say. The American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries argues that the bill would let states tax 401(k) contributions and other transactions within workers' accounts. ASPPA and other groups are asking the Senate Finance Committee to examine the bill's unintended consequences.
