Satellite maps provide a snapshot of Antarctica in 1964

Scientists have been able to use data from the Nimbus-1 satellite to construct maps of Antarctica as it looked in September 1964. These satellite maps -- believed to be the earliest ones of the continent in existence -- can provide valuable insight about historical ice coverage.
