Senate moves online tax collection bill to vote

The Senate voted to proceed further on the bill that would require states to collect tax on Internet sales, the tally coming to 75-22. This follows the closure of debate on The Marketplace Fairness Act on Monday. Though the bill seems likely to pass in the Senate this week, lawmakers remain sharply divided between those who feel the bill levels the playing field for small businesses against Internet giants and those who think compliance would place an unfair burden on businesses.
