Teacher: Students need more time to finish N.Y. language arts assessments

Some high-achieving students could not finish one 90-minute portion of New York's new language arts assessment given last week, teacher Ariel Sacks writes in this blog post. In the 90 minutes, students must read three multiple-page passages, answer seven multiple-choice questions, write five short-answer responses and one essay. "The most unfortunate part of this is that we'll have no real way of knowing how our students would have done, had they finished the exam," Sacks writes.
