Food-safety bill will provide FDA with needed resources, Democrats say

Democratic lawmakers on Thursday pushed for a food-safety bill, saying that additional user fees and other proposals would give the FDA necessary resources to boost food security. The bill, however, could weaken the agency's ability to target high-risk foods because it distributes too much funding and resources across a wider area of inspection, the director of the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition said.
