Satellite firms want part of broadband services fund

Satellite providers have told the Federal Communications Commission that they are entitled to a piece of the Connect America Fund, the agency's new vehicle aimed at reforming the Universal Service Fund and providing broadband service to unserved areas. Dish Network, EchoStar Technologies, ViaSat/Wildblue Communications and Hughes Network Systems filed joint comments saying there are no technical reasons to bar their participation. They argued that they should be allowed to compete on an equal footing with other broadband service providers.
