ACC: Federal budget cuts may hinder EPA's permitting operations

The American Chemistry Council is concerned about how budget cuts could affect the Environmental Protection Agency's permitting activities for industrial facilities. Such cuts "could cause permitting delays and/or increase uncertainty around our construction or expansion projects, and could take some of the steam out of the manufacturing renaissance being driven by new shale gas supplies," said ACC spokeswoman Jennifer Scott. "Unfortunately, sequestration, staff furloughs, and budget cuts could adversely affect the permitting timeline," she added.
