FDA counterfeit-detection device to be tested on meds in Ghana

In a pilot test that will start in Ghana, the FDA will use a handheld device to identify counterfeit prescription drugs. The device allows inspectors to compare products against legitimate drugs under multiple wavelengths of light. The trial will expand through Africa and Southeast Asia. If the tests are successful, the technology will be used in the U.S.
