Nurse helps bring palliative care to bone marrow transplant center

Kansas City Cancer Center-University of Kansas Hospital palliative care nurse navigator Amy Velasquez helped create an outpatient palliative care program for cancer patients at a bone marrow transplant center that increased access to end-of-life care in home and hospice settings and reduced deaths in the hospital. Velasquez said palliative care is important for cancer patients, who can have severe symptoms from their treatments.
