Polio-eradication plan gets nearly 75% of funding up front

A $5.5 billion plan from the Global Polio Eradication Initiative to eradicate polio by 2018 has received nearly three-quarters of that in funding pledges, including $1.8 billion from Bill Gates. "After millennia battling polio, this plan puts us within sight of the endgame," said Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organization.
