Safeway promises stronger second half

Safeway, which saw same-store sales rise 1.5% for the first quarter of the year, is expecting a stronger second half as more shoppers sign up for its new loyalty and fuel rewards programs, the company said. Stock prices fell after Thursday's earnings report, which did not meet investor expectations.
