Supermarket sales in Japan dropped in 2010

Consumers in Japan reined in their spending on concerns about the economy, causing a 1.4% decline in supermarkets same-store sales for the fiscal year 2010, which ended in March, according to an industry group. However, same-store sales in March rose 0.3% compared with the same month the previous year, the Japan Chain Stores Association reported.
