Benefit plan data show more emphasis on discounts, penalties

Data from more than 4,500 benefit plans showed 34% of U.S. employers that offer wellness programs include discounts or penalties based on participation, compared with 25.4% in 2009, according to Compdata Surveys. Other research has shown more companies are tying incentives to health outcomes.
