Researchers take step toward touch-sensitive artificial skin

American and Chinese scientists have developed a sensor array that could be used to create artificial human skin with the same sensitivity as the real thing. The "smart" skin is created using zinc oxide nanowires connected to transistors, and it is capable of producing individual electronic signals. According to the researchers, the technology could find applications in a number of fields, including robotics and human-computer interfaces.
