Samsung profits surge as flagship Galaxy S4 hits stores

South Korean electronics firm Samsung reported profits of $6.5 billion for the quarter ending March 31, a 42% increase over the same period last year thanks to strong sales of smartphones. The company -- whose newest smartphone model, the Galaxy S4, is being released today -- accounted for a third of global smartphone sales in the first quarter, according to Strategy Analytics.
