Box confirms HIPAA, HITECH compliance of data sharing tool

Box, a data sharing and cloud storage services provider, announced last week that its cloud-based content sharing tool is now compliant with HITECH and HIPAA. A company official said that while no formal certification is involved, the level of privacy the company offers is demonstrated by its willingness to sign HIPAA Business Associate Agreements, which require the firm to offer the same security measures used by its partners to ensure the protection of patient data. This level of security is vital when doctors use their mobile devices to access information, said company officials, adding that this gives Box an edge over other legacy tools built on server infrastructures.
