EPA revises natural gas production emissions estimate

Methane emissions during natural gas production fell 45.8 million tons annually from 1990 through 2010 because of the energy industry's tougher pollution controls, according to a report from the Environmental Protection Agency. This represents a 20% drop from the agency's earlier estimates. "The methane 'leak' claim just got a lot more difficult for opponents" of the fuel source, Steve Everley, team lead of Energy In Depth, said in response to the report.
