House might block bill for online sales tax

The Senate seems poised to pass the Marketplace Fairness Act when Congress returns from recess next week, but the bill's prospects in the House aren't nearly as clear, as some lawmakers see the measure as additional taxation. Supporters, including governors, Amazon and the National Retail Federation, say the bill merely would level the playing field and give states a way to collect sales tax already owed.
