How one district uses play to improve mental health

Universal screening of K-3 students and play-based therapy are helping a New York district tackle mental-health issues, such as anxiety and fear, writes district social worker Kathleen E. Eisele. Selected students participate in "play dates" with a paraprofessional trained to interpret the child's play, and parents are taught to use similar interventions at home.
