Lawmakers move to stem helium shortage

Congress is moving to solve a helium shortage that could cripple high-tech industries in the U.S. A bill passed by the House would keep sales as they are now for the next year, then semiannual auctions would be held to sell 60% of the helium the Bureau of Land Management has in reserve. Sales would be limited to federal users in five years when the reserve dips below 85 billion liters. A similar measure has been introduced in the Senate.
