District superintendents in Maine are expected today to receive letter grades for their schools. The grading system, modeled after Florida's system, is based on standardized test scores for math and English, students' growth and the performance and growth of the bottom 25% of students. The grading system, however, has drawn criticism from some who say the approach is punitive and meant to "shame" schools that receive lower grades.
