Maine regulators schedule hearings for wind-power proposal

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection will hold hearings this week on First Wind's proposed Bowers Wind project. First Wind's initial proposal was rejected by regulators, prompting the company to submit a scaled-down plan that it says would have a smaller scenic and cultural impact. The revised proposal features fewer turbines that would be placed in less visible areas and would have radar-activated lighting that will turn on when an aircraft approaches, a spokesman said.
