NASA aiming for asteroid, then manned Mars flight

NASA says that it's still planning to send astronauts to Mars and that a manned asteroid mission is the first step to making that vision reality. Flying to an asteroid will help NASA develop the technology needed to put people on Mars safely and give the agency the practice it needs before attempting the bigger mission, according to William Gerstenmaier, NASA's human spaceflight chief.
