Opinion: Minn. renewables standard is good for consumers

An op-ed in the St. Cloud Times ignored the economic, environmental and public health benefits of Minnesota's renewable energy standard and wind power, writes Justin Van Beusekom, senior operations manager of Pioneer Prairie and Prairie Star wind farms in Minnesota and Iowa. Industry data has shown that the RES does not push up utility rates, while increased use of wind power drives down wholesale electricity costs, Van Beusekom states. "The increase in the RES is Minnesota’s opportunity to continue injecting competition into the energy market, while protecting the nearly 3,000 jobs that the wind industry supports," Van Beusekom notes.
