FDA clears catheter designed to prevent blood infection

The FDA has granted Smiths Medical 510(k) clearance for its ViaValve safety intravenous catheter. The device, slated to hit the market at the end of the summer, is intended to cut the risk of infection or cross contamination that may stem from blood exposure at the start of IV treatments.
