Cardiologists report income gains, increased ACO participation

The mean salary for American cardiologists increased to $357,000 in 2012 from $314,000 a year earlier, although 20% of respondents reported their income had declined by more than 10%, 18% said it had decreased by up to 10%, and 42% reported their income had not changed, according to the 2013 Medscape Physician Compensation Report. Accountable care organization participation increased to 18% in 2012 from 2% in 2011, while 14% of cardiologists said they intend to join an ACO in the coming year, according to the report.
